Most of the conservation themes surrounding Tanah Papua were always about trees, carbons, abundant biodiversity, coral reefs, marines, and others. We rarely talked about the welfare of the indigenous Papuans — the post-colonial policies, racism, commodification of nature, and territorialization still persist and have impacted their lives to this day. With this atlas, I hope this could help some audiences realize and critically acknowledge the ongoing issues of their everyday struggles. While mapping may seem harmless, map is also inherently and always political.
